Challenge
My task was to design a short digital version of the annual and sustainbility report for LKAB.com. The website would follow the physical product’s graphic expression and at the same time feel cohesive with LKAB’s existing website.
Consistency:
The digital report needed to visually align with the printed version while still feeling cohesive with LKAB’s existing website style.Complementarity:
The goal was to create a complement, not a duplication — encouraging deeper engagement with the full printed report.Accessibility and Reach:
Make sustainability data and business highlights easily accessible to stakeholders online.Social Media Integration:
Adapt the digital experience to fit modern user behavior, with content optimized for direct linking and mobile reading.
Strategy
The strategy was to ensure that the web version did not duplicate the printed report, but that the two media instead complemented each other. Stakeholders often sought quick access to key data (financials, sustainability progress) without downloading the full PDF report.
Users appreciated bite-sized articles and preferred to share individual sections rather than entire documents. So last year we expanded the strategy to also include social media traffic. Because of this we restructured content into individual, shareable articles that could be easily linked from LinkedIn, newsletters, or Instagram campaigns — allowing audiences to engage with specific themes like climate action or innovation.
Tools
The prototype was created using Figma.
Result
The result has been three digital annual reports that have been customized each year depending on web traffic insights and what the client wished to highlight.
Scalable Success:
Each year we customized the digital reports to reflect LKAB’s evolving focus areas, keeping the platform fresh and strategically aligned.Higher Accessibility:
The new format made it easier for investors, partners, and media to access and share LKAB’s achievements in sustainability and innovation.- Award-Winning Work:
The digital annual report for 2021 was awarded both the Grand Prix and Gold in the digital category in the Publishing Prize 2022.
